Batumi – Kobuleti Protected Areas – Mtirala National Park - Batumi
Departure to the Kobuleti Protected Areas (KPA).
It hosts one of the most highly valued wetland ecosystems in the world.
First, we visit the KPA Visitor Centre to get to know the flora and fauna of the area.
Then we walk with swamp shoes on the peat moss carpet and explore water Lilies, the insect eating Drosera, Yellow Iris, Buckbean, and Royal fern. We observe also turtles, coypus, butterflies and birds.
After the walk, we continue to the Mtirala National Park and take a picnic by the Chakvistavi river.
In the afternoon, we dive into the Colchic rainforest with its multiple water sources, mossy stones, a waterfall from a height of 16 m and a hidden lake, called the lake of love. During a 3 -hour walk through the pristine forest we will identify different species of trees like the Oriental beech and the Caucasian Linden, bushes like beautiful yellow Azaleas and colourful flowers. Maybe we can see too Caucasus salamanders, Caucasian parsley frogs and woodpeckers.
Later we take a handmade cable car crossing the Chakvistavi river. On the other bank a farewell dinner awaits us prepared by a family run restaurant. The menue includes regional specialities: Dedluri, chicken in milk sauce spiced with local saffron; Malakhto, young kidney beans in a spiced walnut sauce; Sinori, an unleavened lavash flatbread with Georgian cottage cheese;
