Greater Caucasus Trek & Black Sea Music Festival Adventure

Intro

This guesthouse-based hiking tour takes you along the most spectacular hiking trail in the Greater Caucasus Mountains. You'll hike among the highest peaks of Europe, through deep lush valleys, and past picturesque villages steeped in history and culture. After exploring the medieval town of Mestia and a following 4-day trek, we'll spend two days on the sandy Black Sea Coast, where you can enjoy dancing at the Komorebi electronic music festival.

Equipment
Waterproof hiking clothes, comfortable hiking shoes, hiking sticks, 2 l water bottle, lunch box for multiple use, hygiene utensils, sun hat, sunscreen cream, insect repellent.
For attendees joining us at the Electronic Music Festival and opting to stay at the campsite, we recomend bringing: waterproof tent, sleeping mat, sleeping bag, Camping crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, bath towel, swimsuit.

Day 1   ArrivalKutaisi

Day 2   Kutaisi–Mestia

In the morning, we head towards Upper Svaneti in the Greater Caucasus Mountains. After a three-hour drive, we stop in the mixed forests for a picnic next to a charming waterfall.
In the afternoon, we arrive at the historic town of Mestia, known for its hundreds of medieval houses and watchtowers. After checking into our guesthouse, we take a leisurely stroll through the town, exploring its rich history. We also have the opportunity to visit the interior of one of these historical houses, which typically include a watchtower for protection, a cozy living room with a fireplace, sleeping quarters, a food and wine storage area, and a stable for domestic animals.
In the evening, we enjoy a traditional dinner featuring local specialties prepared by our host at the guesthouse.

Overnight stay in Mestia

Day 3   Mestia–Tsvimri

Our picturesque four-day trek from village to village begins directly from our guesthouse. We'll start by walking through the charming streets of Mestia town to reach the Hatsvali Cable Car Station. From there, we'll take a gondola ride up to the Zuruldi range and continue along the hiking path through open forests and colourful alpine meadows until we reach Mentashi hill. The summit of the hill offers stunning 360° views of the highest peaks of the Caucasus Mountains. We'll take a picnic break here before descending on a steep terrain

directly to our guesthouse in the village of Tsvimri.

Day 4   Tsvimri-Adishi

Today, another impressive trail awaits us along our trek. We'll ascend the upper path from Tsvimri to the charming village of Adishi. This route is renowned for its breathtaking mountain landscapes and rich diversity of endemic plants and animal species.
By late evening, we'll arrive at the ancient village of Adishi. Our gracious host at the guesthouse will greet us warmly with delicious dinner.

Day 5   Adishi-Iprali

We leave our guesthouse early in the morning and begin hiking on the most adventurous and challenging path of our four-day trek. First, we walk along a relatively flat route towards the Adishala River. We cross the river with the help of horses and then continue climbing on a steep path up to Chukhundi Pass (2720m). We spend some time on the pass enjoying a delicious picnic while taking in the epic 360° views.
We then continue hiking downhill along the Chaldichala Riverbank to the village of Iprali. Along the way, we pass shepherd huts and the tiny village of Khalde, where we can buy snacks and enjoy a beer.

Overnight stay in Iprali

Day 6   Iprali-Ushguli

After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we set off towards Ushguli. The initial three kilometers of the route follow the Inguri River until we reach the village of Dvibri. From there, we continue our journey by foot, traversing nine kilometers through the open forest until we reach the ancient village of Ushguli. Nestled at the foot of the Schkhara Glacier (5193m), Ushguli is renowned as one of the highest continuously inhabited villages in Europe, situated at an elevation of 2100m.
We pause for a coffee break at a small café nestled in the heart of Ushguli. Afterwards, we wander through the streets of this UNESCO World Heritage site, marveling at its medieval houses and watchtowers while immersing ourselves in the local lifestyle.
In the evening, we visit the Lamaria Monastery, which dates back to the 10th century. This monastery boasts unique decorated architecture and medieval frescoes, providing us with a glimpse into the rich history of the region.

Day 7   Ushguli – Sisatura – Anaklia

This marks our final day in Upper Svaneti. We make the most of a relaxed morning, sleeping in and savoring a peaceful breakfast with stunning views of the Chkhara Glacier.
In the late morning, we begin our journey towards the Black Sea beach in Anaklia. Along the way, we make a stop at the Ethno Village Sisatura, where a delightful wine tasting and early dinner featuring traditional Mengrelian dishes await us. We'll have the opportunity to sample rare wines such as Ojaleshi, a sweet red wine, and Chkhaveri, a semi-sweet rosé. Additionally, we'll learn about the various regional wine types and the esteemed wine-making traditions of Georgia. Following the wine tasting, we'll indulge in a typical Mengrelian Supra, featuring dishes such as Elarji, Gebzhalia, Chakhokhbili, lobio, and Ajaphsandali, offering a rich culinary experience.In the evening we reach Ueki and Check-in the Guesthouse.
In the evening, we reach our guesthouse in Ureki. We spend the entire evening on the coast, delighting in swimming and relaxing as we watch the sunset over the Black Sea.
For participants who won't be attending the Komorebi Festival, the tour operator can assist in arranging transportation to Kutaisi.

Day 8 - 9   Anaklia

We spend two unforgettable musical days at the "Komorebi" festival.
This unique music festival takes place once a year on Anaklia Beach. Legendary artists from the global electronic music scene, alongside beloved local musicians, come together to create a rich tapestry of genres where music, nature, and connections seamlessly blend in harmony. The dance floor's structure ensures guest comfort in any weather condition.
The Information about schedule and artists of the festival will not be published in June-July 2025.

Food, drink & hygiene
In Svaneti, warm breakfast and dinner will be provided at the guesthouses. Additionally, for picnics, we offer bread, cheese, sausage products, fruits, and vegetables. Upon request, vegetarian or vegan food options can be accommodated. Please specify your preferences and any dietary intolerances during the registration process.
At the Komorebi festival, you have the option to purchase food from nearby cafes or prepare your own meals at the campsite.
The tour operator provides hygiene items such as biodegradable soap, dishwashing liquid, toilet paper, and disinfectant. Additionally, please note that bathing facilities are available in the Black Sea.

Accommodation
During the trek in Svaneti, we will stay overnight in shared rooms (with 2-5 beds) at family-run guesthouses.
For the Komorebi festival, accommodations will be provided at the campsite. However, if you prefer inn accommodation, there are plenty of nice hotels nearby the festival site.

Security
Georgia is widely regarded as one of the safest travel destinations in the world, with a very low crime rate.
The conflict in Ukraine has minimal impact on the country, and Georgian hospitality, helpfulness, and tolerance are prominent throughout. Recent media coverage in Europe has focused on the question of independence for the occupied territories of South Ossetia. It's important to clarify that our tour route does not pass through these occupied territories. The conflict over South Ossetia and Abkhazia does not affect the safety of traveling to Georgia or the execution of our tour. The organizer closely monitors any developments regarding potential risks.

Comorebi Electronic Music Festival
The Komorebi Festival promises an exciting musical experience in the picturesque expanses of the resort village of Anaklia on the island of Morimar from August 2 to 4. The organizers promise to present many genres and types of art to please the souls of music lovers.
Informations about festivals schedule and artists will be published in June – July.
A wide range of musical styles awaits the guests of the festival: more than 40 talented world performers of electronic music will be replaced on two stages. In addition, bright hip-hop performances, an exciting choreographic show, relaxing afternoon yoga and much more are planned.
But not only the musical variety deserves attention, the organizers pay close attention to the comfort of guests. For the convenience of all visitors, a transfer from Tbilisi and Batumi to Anaklia and back will be organized. Transport tickets can be purchased online, and minibuses will run regularly on the territory of Samegrelo, providing comfortable travel for everyone who wants to take part in a musical magic symphony.
The Komorebi Festival will become a real celebration of music and art, gathering fans from different parts of Georgia and beyond on the Black Sea coast. It will not only offer an unforgettable musical program, but also create a unique atmosphere of mutual understanding, unity and inspiration.
